IntelliDOT® Corporation's Barcode Point-of-Care Solution Goes Live at Ten Additional Health Management Associates Facilities

-On Schedule to Complete 55 Implementations at HMA Hospitals within Three Years-

SAN DIEGO, CA, April 28, 2008 -- IntelliDOT Corporation, a leading provider of wireless handheld, barcode point-of-care (BPOC) solutions to hospitals, today announced the successful, facility-wide implementation of its CAREt® System at ten additional Health Management Associates (NYSE:HMA) hospitals.  This brings the total number of HMA hospitals actively safeguarding patients with IntelliDOT Bedside Medication Administration™ System to 24.

The most recent HMA hospitals to embrace barcode medication verification at the point-of-care include:

  • Charlotte Regional Medical Center, a 208-bed facility located in Punta Gorda, Fla.;
  • Lancaster Regional Medical Center, a 245-bed facility located in Lancaster, Penn.;
  • Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, a 144-bed facility located in Lititz, Penn.;
  • Midwest Regional Medical Center, a 255-bed facility located in Midwest City, Okla.;
  • Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center, a 72-bed facility in Paintsville, Ky.;
  • Upstate Carolina Medical Center, 125-bed facility in Gaffney, S.C.;
  • Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center, a 116-bed facility in Kennett, MO;
  • Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center, a 95-bed facility in Amory, MS;
  • Natchez Community Hospital, a 101-bed facility in Natchez, MS

“When we made the decision to implement a system in all of our facilities, we assumed it was going to be a large undertaking for our hospitals and for our chosen vendor, but that has not been the case with IntelliDOT," said Jim Jordan, senior vice president and chief information officer for HMA. "The IntelliDOT implementation team has installed the CAREt System in our hospitals, continually exceeding our expectations – and doing it routinely in less than four months per facility.”

"Many barcode point-of-care solutions promise significant benefits only to get mired down in difficult, troublesome implementations," said Thomas G. Klopack, president and CEO of IntelliDOT. "In contrast, the IntelliDOT CAREt System is fast and easy to implement, so hospitals can realize patient, nurse and financial benefits almost immediately."

HMA contracted with IntelliDOT in August, 2006 to bring barcode verification of medications to 55 HMA hospitals located throughout the southeast United States and Washington State over a period of three years. In 19 months, IntelliDOT has guided the multi-hospital system through 24 house-wide implementations—on track with initial expectations. The most recent turn-key implementations averaged less than four months.  The implementation time from kick-off to first unit go-live averaged 81 days across the seven facilities. On average, the hospitals were using the IntelliDOT system house-wide in just 102 days – a pace which distinguishes the IntelliDOT solution from other barcode point-of-care systems.

The IntelliDOT System helps eliminate medication errors by matching the correct patient with the correct medication and method of delivery at the bedside. At only 8 oz. and packing a 12-hour battery life, the nurse-friendly CAREt Handheld device is easily carried for the entire shift by the clinician. The handheld provides the caregiver with information anywhere in the facility while collecting critical information at the point-of-care. The medication administration system interconnects with the Hospital Information System (HIS) and other IntelliDOT modules designed to expand the bedside safety net to vital signs collection, laboratory specimen identification, mother-baby breast milk matching, and blood product administration.

“It has been a pleasure working with each and every HMA hospital over the past year," said Shawn Orr, vice president of Field Operations for IntelliDOT.  "Together, their support staff and our project team have achieved continually fast implementations.  Their excitement, acceptance, and enthusiasm of the CAREt System has stayed constant from start to finish.”
