KLAS Continues to Rate IntelliDOT® as Medication Administration Vendor

-IntelliDOT’s barcode point-of-care solution impacted by new qualification criteria-

SALT LAKE CITY, UT AND SAN DIEGO, CA, February 4, 2008 – Each year KLAS Enterprises surveys thousands of hospitals to assess levels of user satisfaction with hundreds of information technology systems. This January, KLAS released the third annual Medication Administration study which evaluates the adoption of, and user satisfaction with, several industry leading bar code point-of-care (BPOC) systems.

New to the KLAS report in 2007, IntelliDOT Corporation led the KLAS user ratings in 36 of 42 satisfaction factors. While IntelliDOT met the KLAS minimum survey numbers for inclusion in the report, their data fell below the KLAS level of confidence because fewer than 15 live organizations had rated IntelliDOT with KLAS.

This year, however, the report reflects a landmark change in the way KLAS categorized and included vendors. Previous studies have focused on provider experiences in acute care facilities of varied sizes.

“This year, at the request of providers, we decided to split the segment to better focus on have vendors who serve large acute care facilities of 200 beds, those that service facilities of less than 200 beds, and those that serve both. Doing so allows providers to see the data in the most relevant light possible, which is especially important given that needs and goals frequently differ widely between large and small hospitals,” explains Jason Hess, Director of Research, Clinical Ancillary, KLAS Enterprises.

As a result of the focus on large hospitals, IntelliDOT, which has a client base split between the large and community markets, no longer represented enough large facility clients to qualify for inclusion under the new criteria.

“We were disheartened to learn that IntelliDOT would fall from our top ranked position in the market due to the new classification, because IntelliDOT offers a unique BPOC solution which garners exceptionally high satisfaction ratings by both large medical centers and small community hospitals,” said Dave Swenson, RPh, Chief Operations Officer of IntelliDOT.

Indeed, had IntelliDOT remained in the rankings in this year’s report, the company would have again earned the highest overall user satisfaction scores of all vendors listed, although the data would still reflect fewer than 15 unique organizations required by KLAS for full listing.

“We regret that vendors were negatively impacted by this classification change but we are confident that this approach will bring greater value to our hospital customers, leading them to better make informed and effective BPOC system selections,” said Hess. “Fortunately, at the pace that IntelliDOT’s customer base is reportedly growing in both categories, they will be back in the running next year with sufficient sites to measure in both segments.”

IntelliDOT Vice President of Field Operations, Shawn Orr, agrees, “With 26 hospitals live and fully operational on our system running at 92% average acceptance for all nursing units, and 32 more hospitals already scheduled for a 2008 implementation, future inclusion in the KLAS report is not a concern. All of our attention is now on maintaining our industry leading customer satisfaction and install speed, while improving patient safety.”
