Patient safety and interoperability at the bedside
The IntelliDOT System puts medication administration management – and the entire spectrum of patient care – right in the palm of the nurse’s hand. It’s eight ounces of powerful medication error prevention that each nurse can carry from bedside to bedside.
The lightweight, wireless IntelliDOT handheld device enables nurses to perform safety checks and safely administer medications at the bedside with just one hand. As such, the system helps hospitals meet Joint Commission standards by positively identifying patients. Best of all, the IntelliDOT System lets caregivers verify the five rights of medication management – right medication, right dose, right route, right patient, right time – easily, quickly and comprehensively at the bedside.
By simply scanning a patient wristband, the IntelliDOT System handheld device guides nurses through all required tasks and documentation for a patient. Information is automatically sent via clear, concise, organized and logical commands directly into the caregiver’s hand at the point-of-care. IntelliDOT organizes workflow at the bedside while automatically queuing critical tasks and displaying key information. What's more, nurses can document their work while they are working without additional computer log-ins.
It works - without workarounds
Unlike older generation BPOC solutions, the IntelliDOT System does not allow software workarounds or shortcuts for bedside medication administration or any of the other clinical tasks it manages, including phlebotomy specimen collection, mother-baby breast milk matching, vital signs checking, and blood product administration.
The IntelliDOT System meets the critical need for accurate patient identification at the time of medication administration – plus it brings real-time pharmacy order information to the nurse at the bedside, resulting in accurate medication administration. This powerful but lightweight handheld unit enables hospitals to meet a variety of Joint Commission standards including a clear, standardized approach to identifying patients across the continuum of care. Compared to bulky computer carts and error-prone paper-based processes, the IntelliDOT System streamlines nurse workflow while complying with industry standards for patient safety.
| “The IntelliDOT System was designed by nurses and that’s what makes it so user friendly. I know that it has helped our processes become much more effective, efficient, and safe.” |

IntelliDOT Bedside Medication Administration At bedside, easy-to-read screen prompts guide the nurse through medication administration workflows. The CAREt System verifies the five rights of medication management: right medication, right dose, right route, right patient, right time. Customized prompts and warnings also assure medications are administered and documented correctly. Brochure: Improved Patient Safety and Five Rights Checking (PDF). IntelliDOT Phlebotomy Specimen Collection At bedside, the CAREt handheld guides phlebotomists and nurses through safe and accurate specimen collection. Specimen labels are printed at bedside using a small portable wireless printer, eliminating confusion and mislabeling that can occur with labels printed away from the patient’s bedside. IntelliDOT Mother-Baby Breast Milk Matching Using the same CAREt handheld device and a small portable wireless printer, a nurse can print barcode labels for milk containers at the time milk is received from the mother or the mother can take and apply the labels at home. At administration, the infant’s ID band is scanned along with the breast milk container, assuring positive identification and accurate feeding. IntelliDOT Vital Signs Collection Vital signs information or clinical documentation can be captured using the same CAREt handheld. The captured data can populate the eMAR or electronic flow sheets and/or print on separate patient-specific flow sheets. Brochure: Bedside vital signs checking module (PDF). |

IntelliDOT Blood Product Administration Assists in positively identifying the correct blood product for patients and documenting relevant clinical data for the blood transfusion record. The CAREt System provides notification when blood is ready, when to begin the transfusion, and reminds the nurse to check patients at configurable time frames during the transfusion and to return blood to the blood bank if the expiration time is reached.
